VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT

Any qualified elector who is unable or unwilling to appear at the polling place on the Town of Vernon Recall Primary Election may request to vote an absentee ballot.  A qualified elector is any U.S. citizen, who will be 18 years of age or older on the day of the Recall Primary Election, who has resided in the ward or municipality where he or she wishes to vote for at least 10 consecutive days before the Recall Primary Election.  The elector must also be registered in order to receive an absentee ballot. 

 TO OBTAIN AN ABSENTEE BALLOT YOU MUST MAKE A REQUEST IN WRITING AND PROVIDE A PHOTO ID.

Contact Karen L. Schuh, the Clerk/Treasurer and request that an application for an absentee ballot be sent to you for the Recall Primary Election.  You may also request an absentee ballot by letter.  Your written request must list your voting address within the municipality where you wish to vote, the address where the absentee ballot should be sent, if different, and your signature.

Special absentee voting application provisions apply to electors who are indefinitely confined to home or a care facility, in the military, hospitalized, or serving as a sequestered juror.  If this applies to you, please contact the Town Clerk/Treasurer.

 You can also personally go to the Clerk/Treasurer's office, complete a written application, and vote an absentee ballot during the hours specified for casting an absentee ballot.

THE DEADLINE FOR MAKING APPLICATION TO VOTE ABSENTEE BY MAIL IS 5:00 P.M., ON THE FIFTH DAY BEFORE THE RECALL PRIMARY ELECTION IS HELD, WHICH IS THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 2019.

 STATE LAW REQUIRES THAT THE MUNICIPAL CLERK’S OFFICE MUST BEGIN ABSENTEE VOTING ON MONDAY, AUGUST 12, 2019; THE LAST DAY AND TIME TO VOTE IN-PERSON ABSENTEE BALLOT IN THE CLERK/TREASURER'S OFFICE IS THE FRIDAY PRIOR TO THE RECALL PRIMARY ELECTION ON AUGUST 23, 2019 FROM 8:00 A.M. TO 5 P.M.

 THE MUNICIPAL CLERK WILL DELIVER VOTED BALLOTS RETURNED ON OR BEFORE RECALL PRIMARY ELECTION VOTE TO THE PROPER POLLING PLACE OR COUNTING LOCATION BEFORE THE POLLS CLOSE ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 27, 2019.  ANY BALLOTS RECEIVED AFTER THE POLLS CLOSE WILL NOT BE COUNTED!
